ALMATY, September 22 (Itar-Tass) - The launch of Kazakhstan's second
communications and broadcasting satellite KazSat-2 is scheduled for
December 2010, the press service of the national space agency Kazcosmos
said on Tuesday.
"At present, we adopted an addendum to the existing treaty stipulating
that the manufacturer will provide guarantees of quality and reliability
of KazSat-2 and will bear responsibility in case of occurrence of insured
case after the satellite's launch," the source said.
In 2006 Kazakhstan's Republican Centre for Space Communication and the
Khrunichev Space Centre signed an agreement on the construction of a
KazSat-2 satellite. The satellite's construction is completed by 70
percent.
"This year in compliance with the strategic plan of the national space
agency the work is underway to design a KazSat-3 satellite," the source
said.
KazSat-1 was launched from the Baikonur space center by a Proton-K
booster on June 18, 2006, and was taken to the geostationary orbit. On
June 8, 2008, the signal with the satellite was lost as a result of
contingency. To avoid collision with other satellites on the geostationary
orbit the parties agreed to bring KazSat-1 to the disposal orbit and shut
it down on August 14, 2009.
