New TV station for Channel 3 presented to Lao government

(KPL) The new Channel 3 station of the Lao National Television has been handed over by the Chinese government to the Lao government in an official hand–over ceremony held in Vientiane on Monday after a renovation programme funded by China.
The hand-over was performed between Mr. Pan Guangxua, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Laos, and Mr. Mounkeo Oraboun, Minister of Information and Culture, in the witness of Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad and senior officials concerned of Laos and China.
The renovation of the new station of Channel 3 located in Sivilay village, Saythany district, Vientiane capital, received a financial support US$10 million from the Chinese government while the Lao government contributed about 1 billion kip.Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Pinprathana Phanthamaly, Deputy-Director of the Mass Media Department, Ministry of Information and Culture, said that the co-operation demonstrated the success of the Chinese government in assisting the government of Laos to develop the media sector. It’s also a symbol of the solidarity between the two neighbouring nations.
The Channel 3 offers programmes focusing on development, education and economic activities, as well as entertainment and sports. The Channel which commenced broadcasting in 1994 will now resume its broadcast and offer higher quality broadcasts due to the installation of new equipment and facilities.
