Korean government to hold autumn book festival
By Shin Hae-in
SEOUL, Sept. 23 (Yonhap) -- Marking September, touted by the government as the month of reading, a group of 30 publishers, book lovers and experts will join a fall literature festival this week, the culture ministry said Wednesday.
The "2009 Autumn Reading Culture Festival," featuring exhibitions of old books
and photographs, discussion sessions, a book market, puppet performance, book
reading contests and film screenings, will run for four days from Thursday at the
National Museum of Korea, central Seoul.
While autumn is said to be the best season for reading, sales often plunge during
the period with people choosing outdoor activities over book reading.
The culture ministry and the Korea Publication Ethics Commission, co-organizers
of the event, said they hoped the festival will help turn the trend around.
