Russia to cooperate with US on possible sanctions against Iran.




NEW YORK, September 24 (Itar-Tass) - Russia is ready to cooperate with
the United States on possible sanctions against Iran.
"As for sanctions against Iran, Russia's stance is simple: sanctions
rarely lead to a positive result but their use is inevitable in separate
cases. But that's a matter of choice," Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
said after meeting his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama on Wednesday.

.Russia to cooperate with US & Europe on ABM.

NEW YORK, September 24 (Itar-Tass) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
and U.S. President Barack Obama have discussed the ABM-related issues
during their recent meeting in New York.
"We believe that the U.S. administration has made a reasonable
decision which reflects the stance of the incumbent U.S. administration on
the ABM. At the same time, it reflects our concerns about how anti-missile
defence is going to be built in Europe and elsewhere in the world,"
Medvedev said after talks with his U.S. counterpart.
He added that Russia was ready to work in that direction both with the
United States and the European partners.


.Medvedev begins speech at the UN.

UNITED NATIONS, September 24 (ITAR-TASS) - Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev has begun his speech at the 64th session of the U.N. General
Assembly.
"In his address Medvedev will set forth basic assessments of the
present stage of world development, stop over Russian priorities in the
context of the 64th session and will share his vision of how to make a
modern system of international relations more fair and balanced," a
Kremlin source told Itar-Tass earlier.


.Medvedev says Iran should be helped to find decision on nuclear prog.

NEW YORK, September 24 (Itar-Tass) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
believes that Iran should be helped to find a right decision on its
nuclear program.
"Our task is to create a system of incentives that will allow solving
the problem of peaceful use of nuclear energy on the one hand and will not
allow the creation of nuclear weapons on the other hand," President
Medvedev told his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama during a meeting on
Wednesday.
"As responsible members of the world community, we should send
messages to it in this direction. I told Barack Obama during our meeting
earlier today that we think it necessary to help Iran make the right
decision," Medvedev went on to say.
"As for sanctions against Iran, Russia's stance is simple: sanctions
rarely lead to a positive result but their use is inevitable in separate
cases. But that's a matter of choice," Medvedev said.


.Medvedev calls for expanding UN Security Council.

UNITED NATIONS, September 24 (Itar-Tass) - In his speech at the 64th
session of the U.N. General Assembly Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
called for searching a compromising formula to expand the United Nations
Security Council and raise the efficiency of its work.
"Russia believes it's important to strengthen the potential of the
United Nations in every possible way. It should rationally adapt to new
world realities, strengthen its influence but preserve its inter-state
nature and inviolability of the key provisions of its Charter," Medvedev
said.
" Another vital component of the Organization's renewal is the reform
of its Security Council," Medvedev emphasized. He is convinced that time
has come to search for a new compromising formula to expand the United
Nations Security Council and raise the efficiency of its work.

.Crisis hits efforts to fight poverty-Medvedev.

UNITED NATIONS, September 24 (Itar-Tass) - In his speech at the 64th
session of the U.N. General Assembly Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
warned about a threat of thwarting plans to fight poverty because of the
crisis. He called the donor countries not to postpone "for the future"
donor aid to the needy countries.
"A sensitive blow has been dealt on plans to fight poverty. The
achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals have come
under real threat," the Russian president went on to say.
"Donor aid to the needy countries cannot be put off 'for the future'.
Priority tasks set to the world community should be solved obligatory,"
the Russian president emphasized.
"The agreements passed at the G-20 summits and the United Nations
Conference on global crisis and its consequences for development should be
carried out according to deadlines that we've set," Medvedev added.
