300M TALL 1MALAYSIA LANTERN UNIQUE ATTRACTION AT FESTIVAL

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- The KL Lantern Festival 2009, to be held
here on Saturday night, will feature a 300-metre tall lantern shaped in the
1Malaysia logo as part of the event's unique attraction.

The festival's advertising and promotions manager, Mak Soon Peng, told
Bernama that the festival, the fourth in its series, expects around 10,000
visitors from around the country.

"Participation from our multiracial community will complete the 1Malaysia
concept which is also the festival's theme for this year," he said.

He hoped that the event, which is supported by the Tourism Ministry and 100
non-governmental organisations, would see good response from the public.

Mak said religious and cultural differences should not pose a barrier to
Malaysians to celebrate the festival.

Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak is expected to launch the event at
the Central Market where participants would carry their lanterns to the Kotaraya
shopping complex before heading back to the Central Market.

Lanterns are lit by the Chinese community each year to celebrate the
Mooncake festival which falls on Oct 3 this year.
