Laos, China sign agreement on Lao satellite broadcasting cooperation

(KPL) The Lao National Authority for Science signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the Lao satellite broadcasting and telecommunication system construction and business operation project with the China Asia-Pacific Mobile Communications Satellite Company Limited (China-APMT).
An MoU was signed in Vientiane last Friday between Director of the Lao National Authority for Science, Prof. Dr. Bountiem Phissamay and China-APMT President, Mr Liang Xiaohong.
This project is to put into practice an agreement on aerospace science and technology cooperation reached between the governments of Laos and China on 22 August 2008.
The Lao satellite broadcasting and telecommunication system construction and business operation project is worth 2.1 trillion kip or US$250 million.
The China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) has assigned the China-APMT to execute the Lao satellite broadcasting and telecommunication system construction and business operation project in Laos, with reference to the MOU on the development project for the execution.
Prof. Dr. Bountiem who is also Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, said that the project would focus on the draft agreement for the construction of the Lao satellite broadcasting and telecommunication system, make a feasibility study, a draft contract for joint investment, loan procedure and other relevant work to the project operation.
He also said that the two sides would further discuss ways to conduct project immediately. This is a part of the socio-economic development of Laos and an enhancement of the all-round cooperation and the two nations’ strategies.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, Lt. Gen. Douangchay Phichit, a senior engineer of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, Mr. Zoun Ou Gang, and the ambassador of China to Laos, Mr. Pan Guangxue, and representatives of different relevant sectors were among the witnesses to the signing.
