Sakhalin gov praises work of US businesses in the region.
YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, September 29 (Itar-Tass) - The United States of
America has taken the lead among foreign partners of the Sakhalin Region.
This, in all obviousness, has demonstrated the possibility of successsful
work of American businesses in the Russian Federation, Alexander
Khoroshavin, Governor of the Sakhalin Region, said here on Tuesday at a
session of the Russo-American Pacific Partnership (RAPP) forum that opened
here.
Khoroshavin recalled, "American petroleum companies stood at the rise
of two oil-and-gas projects that are the most advanced ones as of now,
the Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2. Following the advent of important American
businesses to Sakhalin, bilateral relatios have been developing
dynamically while the USA has taken the lead among the region's foreign
partners".
The Governor believes that "It is essential for American companies to
multiply the positive experience gained and apply it to new projects".
"In our view, promising are such areas as the processing of raw
materials in the oil-and-gas, timber and fishing industries, the
organisation of the production of building materials , and cooperation in
modernising regional energy and transport infrastructure," Khoroshavin
said.
Sergei Ryabkov, RF Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, told those
present, "The holding of the RAPP session is very important to both the
Sakhalin Region and Russia as a whole, at a time when our relations with
the United States are reaching out to a new level and acquiring a new
dynamism.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is grateful very much to the
leadership of the island region for the fact that you devote special
attention to the process of bringing the two countries closer together.
"We, for our part, reaffirm readiness to assist you to the maximum in
the accomplishment of tasks that you are facing," Ryabkov said.
Russian and American business community members, diplomats,
representatives of state agencies and non-governmental organisations of
the two countries, and delegates of territories and regions that are part
of Russia's Far Eastern Federal District are taking part in the RAPP
two-day session.
.Roscosmos chief urges efforts against asteroid menace.
MOSCOW, September 29 (Itar-Tass) - Anatoly Perminov, Director of
Russia's Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos), in an interview published in
Rossiiskaya Gazeta on Tuesday, said he believes that "it is essential to
make every effort to protect the Earth from asteroid menace". In the
interview he mentions tasks that must be accomplished in outer space.
Perminov said, "This country's space research prospects are being
currently determined for decades ahead". He said his personal opinion is
that "it is necessary to go on masstering the near-Earth space and
develop technical means and technologies, and make use of all the
advantages of orbital flights down to everyday use of their resources".
In Russia, new-generation spacecraft will replace the Soyuz manned
spaceships and Progress resupply spacecraft, Perminov said. "However,
since space shuttle flights will possibly terminate in 2010-2911, our
'veteran' spacecraft would have to operate for another decade.
Incidentally, although the name of Russian spaceships has not been changed
over a long period of time, each new one differs from the previous one,"
he pointed out.
"Mordenisation and modification proceed continuously," Perminov
explained. "These are already different spaceships now. There have emerged
tasks that are difficult to accomplish by means of these spacecraft.
New-generation technologies are needed. We have set about developing a
cargo spacecraft, as well a returnable cargo one, a spacecraft for flights
to the Moon, Mars, and interorbital tugs. An experimental optimisation of
spaceship is to begin in 2015-2018".
The Roscosmos chief is convinced that "the development of outer space,
including theMoon, must be carried out only within the scope of
international cooperation. And not only for the sake of saving huge
amounts of money. The most advanced things of every participating country
will be put to use. The reliability of programme and safety of flights
will be ensured. The International Space Station programme is a graphic
evidence of that".
