Vietnam helps Lao communications

(KPL) Vietnam will help Laos formulate a master development plan for its post and telecommunication sectors as part of a memorandum of understanding signed in Vientiane on September 29.
Vietnam will also help Laos equip a control station to better manage radio frequencies and assist in this undertaking during the upcoming 25th SEA Games which is to be hosted by Laos in December 2009.
Telecommunications network management and security will be an area of cooperation to which both countries have agreed in documents signed on the same day during the visit to Laos by Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Information and Communication, Nguyen Thanh Hung.
These projects are grant aids from the Vietnamese Government, totalling 17 billion dong. Both sides will implement the projects in the end of this year while the project to support the SEA Games will be implemented after the document is signed.
The memorandums of understanding were signed by the Director General of Planning and Cooperation Department, Mr Snith Saphakdy and Director General of the National Institute of Information and Communication Strategy, Mr Le Xuan Lan. The signing was witnessed by the Deputy-President of the Lao National Telecommunication and Post Authority, Mr Padabphet Sayakhoth and the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung as well as head of departments and the officials from both sides.Earlier on September 28, Deputy Minister Hung and his entourage were received by Laos’s Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavad Lengsavat.
The Lao Vice-Premier hailed the two telecommunication sectors’ cooperation plans and the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communication (VMIC)’s projects designed for the Lao post and telecommunication as practical assistance for Laos’s development and regional and global integration.
He expressed the hope that the VMIC would step up its cooperation with the Lao communication sector in the future.
During their four-day visit to Laos, which began on September 27, Vietnamese information and communication officials held working sessions with officials from Lao ministries of planning, investment and finance to discuss ways to deploy two Vietnamese-funded projects for the Lao post and telecommunication sector.
