Laos draws with Vietnam 2-2 and beats Thailand 3

(KPL) In preparation for the 2009 SEA Games Laos, the Lao Football Federation, Lao National Television, and the Crossfire Co. Ltd, are proud to announce the 2009 4-Nations Football Tournament.
The national teams from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Laos played an AFC sanctioned tournament, to promote the SEA Games theme of Generosity, Amity, and a Healthy Lifestyle in live television broadcasts throughout the pan-Asian region.
U-23 (Under-23) squads from Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Laos had originally signed up for the October 2-6 Pre-SEA (South East Asian) Games in Laos but Thailand decided to send its U-19 players just a couple days before the competition started, prompting Vietnam and Malaysia to do the same.
Vietnam’s U-19 squad drew 2-2 with Laos’ U-23s after failing to hold on to a 2-0 lead at the Pre-SEA Games tournament in Vientiane on Friday.
Ngo Hoang Thinh’s 13th minute goal took the lead early and Ha Minh Tuan’s 50th minute goal provided what should have been insurance for Vietnam’s U-19 team.
But the Vietnamese side looked exhausted as the second half drew to an end and they lost control of the match.
Laos took the chance and pulled one back with a goal by Kaysone Soukhavong at the 68th minute.
Vietnam still had the upper hand until a Vietnamese defender tackled a Lao player in the penalty area and Sangvone scored the equalizer from the penalty spot seven minutes from full time.
Final score Laos 2: Vietnam 2
Earlier that day, Malaysia’s U-19 squad and Thai U-19s had also tied at the same score.
The Malaysian team was represented by a mixture of players from the Harimau Muda U-19 and the national Under-18 squad under Coach Ong Kim Swee.
Khairul Izuan Rosli opened account in the 34th minute before the Thais drew level from a penalty kick on the hour mark.
Wan Zack Haikal Wan Nor restored Malaysia’s lead when he foxed the Thai goalkeeper Wasan Narsuan from an acute angle in the 75th minute.
But a defensive lapse a minute from regulation time saw the Thais drew level to salvage a point.
Gary Steven came close to snatching the winner for Malaysia but his shot from outside the box was denied by the woodwork in stoppage time.
The Malaysians included six players from the national U-23 squad – Ahmad Shakir, K. Gurusamy, Mohd Faizal, Mahali Jasuli, Mohd Muslim and Mohd Fandi Othman – who will be playing in the Laos SEA Games from Dec 8-19.
The second day for the PRE-SEA Games football match also kicked off in Vientiane on Sunday, in which Laos played against Thailand, and Vietnam played against Malaysia.
The results are as follows:
Laos 3: Thailand 0
Malaysia 3: Vietnam 1
This evening is the last day for the Pre-SEA Games football match that will take place in Vientiane at the same place with last two-day matches, which Laos will meet Malaysia and Thailand will play with Vietnam.
