12/10 Tass 305

ASTANA, October 12 (Itar-Tass) -- Kazakhstan regards the signing of
the documents on normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey as
a breakthrough on the road to the establishment of stability in the South
Caucasus, Yerzhan Ashikbayev, Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry spokesman,
said on Monday.

"We regard this event as a breakthrough on the road to the
establishment of peace, stability and well-being in the South Caucasus and
we do justice to political courage and insight of the Armenian and Turkish
leaders who proceed from the supreme interests of their peoples," he
stressed.
Ashikbayev said Kazakhstan highly appreciates the activity of the
international mediators, above all, of the Minsk Group of the OSCE, the
chiefs of the foreign ministries of Russia, United States and France, "due
to whom the reconciliation process between Turkey and Armenia took a
second wind."
The spokesman made assurances that "as the next president of the OSCE,
Kazakhstan will be doing its utmost to consolidate and develop the
arrangements reached (between Armenia and Turkey)."
