Talks with ULFA only after it lays down arms: Chidamabarm

Srinagar, Oct 14 (PTI) Indian Home Minister P
Chidamabaram Wednesday said the Indian government will hold
talks with banned Assam-based terror outfit United Liberation
Front of Asom (ULFA) only after it lays down arms and warned
that otherwise security forces will take "appropriate action".

"We will hold talks with ULFA only after they lay down
their arms. If the do not lay down their arms, the security
forces will take appropriate action," he told reporters here.

His remarks reflect the government's tough stance
regarding the militant outfit which has been continuously
engaged in subversive activities.

On January one, Chidambaram, during a visit to India's
northeastern state of Assam, had said security forces would
deal "decisively" with banned outfits in the North-East which
threaten peace and integrity of India but felt talks could be
held with ULFA if it gave up its sovereignty demand. PTI SKL
