India's electronics exports to Mideast register 107 pc growth

Dubai, Oct 20 (PTI) India's export of electronic hardware
registered an unprecedented growth of 107 per cent going up from USD 3279 million in 2007-08 to USD 6790 million in 2008-09, a top official here said.

Citing figures from the directorate general of commercial
intelligence and statistic (DGCIS), Kamal Vachani, regional
director of electronics and computer software export promotion
council (ESC) for the Middle East, said rise of USD 3279
million in 2007-08 to USD 6790 million in exports of
electronics hardware from India to Middle East countries has
been observed during the year 2008-09, a rise of 107 per cent.
"The share of electronics hardware exports from India to
Middle East increased from 12.53 per cent to 14.81 per cent
making Middle East countries the 3rd top destination for
India's electronics hardware export during the year 2008-09,"
he told PTI on Monday following the inauguration of Indian
pavilion at technology expo GITEX here.
It is estimated that electronics goods export to Middle
East countries during 2008-09 is valued at USD 1006 million up
from USD 411 million estimated in the year 2007-08 registering
a growth of 145 per cent.
According to Vachani, export of software and related
services to Middle East has also registered an excellent
growth of 161 percent.
"Export of software and services increased from USD 569
million estimated in 2007-08 to USD 1486 million estimated in
2008-09," he said. PTI CORR
