Symphonies for piano and woodwinds will be performed by Vietnamese, Brazilian musicians

Hanoi (VNA) – Symphonies for piano and woodwinds will be performed by Vietnamese and Brazilian musicians in a concert Oct. 28 in Hanoi Opera House.

The concert will feature pieces by Brazilians Heitor Villa-Lobos and Luiz Otavio
Braga; French composers Francis Poulenc and Vietnamese musician Nguyen Phuc Linh.

The Brazilians are members of the Brazilian quartet Unirio, who arrived in
Vietnam on Oct. 25.

Unirio was found by teachers from Villa-Lobos Unirio Institute in the State of Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil. The quartet include Sergio Barenechea, flute; Fernando Silveira,
clarinettist; Elione Mederios, fagote; and Lucia Barrenechea, pianist.

The artists will perform with two Vietnamese trombonist Pham Quoc Chung, and oboeist
Phan Viet Cuong.

The works include Heitor Villa-Lobos’s pieces Chorus No2, Bachianas Brasilleiras
No 6 and Fantasia Concertante. Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) was the most
well-known composer in Brazil , said Brazilian ambassador to Vietnam Joao
Mendonca Lima Neto.

Linh’s Symphony for Five Woodwinds (2009) will also be performed. The symphony
depicts the natural beauty of Vietnamese ethnic groups.

The quartet’s upcoming activities are part of series of cultural events to be held
by the Brazilian Embassy to mark the 20 th anniversary of diplomatic relations
between Vietnam and Brazil .
