Int'l symposium on space and global security to open in Cyprus.



NICOSIA, November 2 (Itar-Tass) -- The first specialized symposium
"Space and Global Security of Humanity" will open in Limassol on Monday to
focus on the creation of an international aerospace system for monitoring
of global natural and technogenic phenomena.

The symposium is organized by
the Tsiolkovsky Russian Academy of Cosmonautics, the International Academy
of Astronautics and the International Association Znanie (Knowledge).
Chief of the Russian Federal Space Agency Anatoly Perminov, the chiefs
of the national space agencies of Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Romania and
officials of the aerospace agencies of the United States, Canada, India
and the EU states will participate in the symposium. They will discuss the
development of methods and means of global aerospace monitoring of natural
phenomena, emergency situations, man-made crashes and catastrophes,
promising technologies for collecting, processing and distributing the
aerospace monitoring data. The symposium will consider the designation and
the major tasks resolved with the assistance of the international global
aerospace monitoring system, as well as the structure of a system under
creation. The participants at the symposium will deliver reports on
regional monitoring stations, reception and processing equipment and on
the navigation and information means.
The UN supported the holding of the forum.

.URGENT-Rokot booster with 2 European research satellites launched.

MOSCOW, November 2 (Itar-Tass) -- The Rokot booster with two European
research satellites SMOS and Proba-2 was launched from the Plesetsk
spaceport on Monday.
"The Russian booster with the upper stage rocket and two satellites
was launched at 04.50 a.m. Moscow time," assistant commander for
information support of the Russian Space Troops Alexei Zolotukhin told
Itar-Tass.

.Upper stage rocket, 2 European satellites separate from booster.

MOSCOW, November 2 (Itar-Tass) -- The ascent unit of the Briz-KM upper
stage rocket and two European research satellites SMOS and Proba-2 has
separated successfully from a Rokot booster, which was launched at 04.50
a.m. Moscow time on Monday from the Plesetsk spaceport.
"The information about the separated ascent unit came at 04.56 a.m.
Moscow time from Russian ground measurement stations," a source in the
Federal Space Agency said.
"The time from the launching moment to the separation of the ascent
unit made 319 seconds," the source said. The upper stage rocket engine
will turn on twice.
"The SMOS satellite will be put on the designated orbit at 06.01 a.m.
Moscow time, the Proba-2 satellite - at 07.50 a.m. Moscow time. The
satellites will be put on the designated orbit beyond the radio visibility
zone of Russian means of the ground automated control system," assistant
commander for information support of the Russian Space Troops Alexei
Zolotukhin said.

.Two Vladivostok residents among crewmen on arrested bulk freighter.

VLADIVOSTOK, November 2 (Itar-Tass) -- Two Vladivostok residents are
among four Russian sailors from the Panamanian-flagged bulk freighter,
which was arrested in Congo. These sailors are second mechanic Andrei
Chernov and third mechanic Alexander Bochka, president of the Far Eastern
Association of Sea Captains Pyotr Osichansky said on Monday.
According to him, the Panamanian bulk freighter Island of Luck, which
delivered 12,000 tonnes of rice in the Congolese port Matadi, was arrested
on October 20. According to the preliminary reports, the ship was detained
due to an act of violence against four Congolese citizens, who got aboard
the vessel illegally and were attempting to travel without any fare. They
were allegedly beaten up and were thrown overboard; the fate of one of
them is still unclear.
According to Osichansky, the crew consisted of 23 sailors, including
15 Ukrainian citizens, four Russian citizens, one from India, one from
Ghana and two from Myanmar. Two other Russians are chief mate Vitaly
Dushin and chief mechanic Vladimir Rudenok. Their places of residence in
Russia have not been reported yet.
