RF-Cyprus relations are excellent - FM.
NICOSIA, November 4 (Itar-Tass) - Foreign Minister of the Republic of Cyprus Markos Kyprianou has said in an interview to Itar-Tass on the eve of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's visit to the island beginning on Wednesday that Russia-Cyprus relations are excellent.
"I need to stress that the traditional friendship ties between the two
countries have been tested and the test unquestionably confirmed their
depth and firmness," the minister said. "The successful visit of the
President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias to Moscow last
November once again confirmed the high level of our relations. It is
reflected in the political declaration signed by President Dmitry Medvedev
and President Demetris Christofias," he noted.
Russia and Cyprus have concluded numerous agreements that help them
develop cooperation in such spheres as the economy, finances, tourism,
healthcare and law, Kyprianou noted. "For example, you know that both
countries are the main investors in the economies of each other and we
seek to further strengthen such cooperation," he continued. "Our goal is
to further strengthen the considerable presence of Cyprus business in
Russia, which, we believe, can help soften the effects of the global
financial crisis," the minister said.
The Cyprus foreign minister drew attention to another "very important
aspect of our relations - the presence of the dynamic and full of energy
Russian community in Cyprus." "Its presence reflects strong ties between
the two countries, as well as friendship and many similar traits
characteristic of Russians and Cypriots," he noted.
