Lavrov departing for Cyprus, to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina.

MOSCOW, November 4 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei
Lavrov is departing for Cyprus on Wednesday and then he will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Cyprus programme envisages the RF minister's meetings with
President Demetris Christofias and Foreign Minister Markos Kyprianou.
"The aim of the visit is to continue the active political dialogue
with the Cyprus side," the RF Foreign Ministry noted. "The parties are to
exchange views on the extensive international agenda, in particular, on
the situation in the Middle East settlement, in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon,
around the Iranian nuclear programme, as well as acute regional
conflicts," it added.
"Cyprus continues to be a stable economic partner of Russia and is one
of the leading channels of drawing foreign investments in the Russian
economy," the ministry stressed. "The total volume of accumulated
investments that came from Cyprus in 2008 reached 56.7 billion US dollars,
and the mutual trade turnover accounted for 1306 million US dollars," it
said.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, "Russian Federation
subjects' business relations with Cyprus are strengthening. Within the
framework of this cooperation we welcome the participation of Cyprus
construction companies in the preparations of Sochi for the 2014 Winter
Olympic Games. Cyprus still remains one of the most attractive tourist
destinations for Russians." "In 2008, about 200 thousand tourists from
Russia visited Cyprus," it noted.
On Thursday, November 5, Sergei Lavrov will go to Bosnia and
Herzegovina where he will hold meeting with his Bosnian colleague Sven
Alkalaj and other leaders.
The RF Foreign Ministry noted the importance of the arrival of the
Russian minister to Sarajevo "taking into account the increased attention
that is given to the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the context of
international efforts aimed at strengthening peace and security in this
region."
Russia is one of international guarantors of the Peace (Dayton)
Agreement for Bosnia and Herzegovina signed in December 1995 that put an
end to the blood-shedding conflict in the country. "We are for the strict
observance of the Dayton principles of the Bosnia and Herzegovina state
system, its unity and territorial integrity," the ministry said.
"In conversations with the leadership of Bosnia and Herzegovina and
Republika Srpska the main attention will be given to the bilateral
relations," it stated. "We call for the intensification of the political
dialogue and expansion of the bilateral trade-economic ties.""The future
participation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the work of the UN Security
Council as a non-permanent members in 2010-2011 opens favourable
possibilities for the deepening of interaction with Sarajevo in
international affairs," the RF ministry is certain.
