YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, November 6 (Itar-Tass) - Famous Russian traveller
Fyodor Konyukhov and South Korean extreme traveller Sung-Hun Kim intend to
organize an expedition from Seoul to Murmansk.
Their voyage will take place next year and will be devoted to the 20th
anniversary of diplomatic relations established between the then Soviet
Union and South Korea. The two travellers have already signed a protocol
of intentions and set the aim to cross the Korean peninsula from the south
to the north. For that they intend to ask North Korean leader Kim Jong Il'
s permission to travel across North Korea, Konyukhov's press service
reported.
2010 has been announced the Year of South Korea in Russia.
Sung-Hun Kim, a former diplomat, believes that if such a legendary
person as Fyodor Konyukhov crosses North Korea and South Korea, "it will
serve the cause of the unification of the two countries, and the whole
world will follow that grandiose project".
In the upcoming expedition the Russian and Korean men, who will travel
on cars, horses and camels, want to visit many major Russian cities and
cities of the Korean peninsula. The expedition will start simultaneously
from Murmansk and Seoul.
In 2010, Fyodor Konyukhov and Sung-Kun Kim also plan to cross
Greenland. They will make a trans-Greenland dog sleigh ride from the south
to the north. In 2007 Konyukhov crossed Greenland from the east to the
west in 14 days.
