SPECIAL WORKING GROUP`S 26TH SESSION ON CASPIAN SEA STATUS HELD IN ASHGABAT

Ashgabat, November 6 (AzerTAc). A special working group dealing with defining of the legal status of the Caspian Sea has convened in the Turkmen capital for its 26th meeting.
The meeting brought together deputy foreign ministers of all Caspian littoral states - Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
Representatives of the Caspian littoral countries stated their positions on the legal status of the Caspian Sea and their suggestions on various aspects of maritime cooperation.
The parties reaffirmed the common desire for the soonest completion of a draft Convention as a base document that would regulate all the activities and relationships of littoral states.
The participants stressed the importance of harmonizing the conceptual provisions of the draft Convention relating to the delimitation of the seabed, subsoil and water area of the Caspian Sea, as well as laying of submarine pipelines and other issues.
The participants decided to hold the next meeting in Tehran, Iran.
