Prokhorov, Kerimov decide against selling Polus Zoloto shares.
MOSCOW, November 21 (Itar-Tass) -- The co-owners of the Polus Zoloto
company - Mikhail Prokhorov's UNEXIM group (controls a 40-percent stake),
and Suleiman Kerimov's Nafta Moskva (37 percent) - have decided against
selling parts of their stakes, as follows from Polus Zoloto's statement
circulated at the London Exchange.
The shareholders made the decision due to the unfavorable situation on
the market.
Prime-Tass recalls that Polus Zoloto shareholders originally had the
intention of selling part of their shareholder capital (no more than five
percent) in the form of shares and American Depository Receipts (ADRs).
The news Prokhorov and Kerimov would sell five-percent stakes each
first hit the headlines early this week.
Polus Zoloto is Russia's leading producer of gold, featuring on the
list of the world's biggest producers by the size of the reserves and
output. The company's assets include gold mines and placer gold deposits
in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Irkutsk, Magadan and Amur regions and
the republic of Yakutia. In 2007 Polus Zoloto produced 37.8 of refined
gold, as much as in 2006.
Polus Zoloto emerged as an independent entity on March 17, 2006.
Before the company was a 100-percent affiliate of GMK Norilsk Nickel.
