UZBEKISTAN ELECTIONS ON DEC 27

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- Uzbekistan will hold its elections on Dec
27, its ambassador Shukur Sabitov said here Tuesday night.

He said the Election Commission had issued permission for four parties to
contest the elections to pick 150 representatives.

They were the People's Democratic Party, the Adolat (or Justice) Social
Democratic Party, the Liberal Democratic Party (Movement of Entrepreneurs and
Businessmen) and the Milliy Tiklanish (or National Revival) Democratic Party, he
added.

Uzbekistan, a country 447,400 sq km in size, is home to about 27 million
people. It declared its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

Meanwhile, Shukur praised the 1Malaysia concept conceived by Prime Minister
Najib Tun Razak, and said Uzbekistan could learn much from Malaysia.
