OANA president urges members to use technology

TEHRAN, Nov. 25 (MNA) -- Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies
(OANA) President Ahmad Mukhlis Yoesoef criticized members for not taking
full advantage of modern technology.

Putting stress on the role of technology in attracting audiences, Mukhlis
Yoesoef said, “Modern technology will give great help to media to
reinforce communication with audiences.”

“Today, agencies can exchange the news and information through mobile,
SMS, e-mail, website, and other technological tools,” he explained.

Highlighting the importance of the OANA meeting hosted by the Mehr News
Agency, he said, “We have learned from the meeting to be friends with
modern technologies and share them with others.”

The OANA 31st Executive Board Meeting (EBM) and the 25th Editorial-Technical
Experts Group (ETEG) Meeting were held in Tehran from November 13 to 17,
2009.

The event was attended by over 40 representatives of 18 governmental and
non-governmental news agencies from the Asia-Pacific states.

Currently about 40 news agencies from 33 Asia-Pacific countries are member
to the OANA.

OANA seeking to turn the impossible into possible

Mukhlis Yoesoef, who is also the managing director of Indonesia’s Antara
News Agency, said the OANA main mission is to “make the impossible
possible.”

He cited an exchange of information among the members and non-members from
around the globe and attempts to provide the best management services to the
members as among other responsibilities of the organization.

“We will focus our attempts not only on the content of the news and
information aired by the members but also on the quality of the agencies’
management,” Mukhlis Yoesoef stated.
