CSTO works out methods of collective reaction to emergencies.
MOSCOW, November 26 (Itar-Tass) - The Coordination Council for
Emergency Situations of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO)
will meet in Moscow on Thursday to discuss a package of comprehensive
measures to protect population in emergency situations.
"A draft action plan of the CSTO member countries designed to create a
system of collective reaction to emergency situations is to be discussed
at the meeting," a source at the CSTO press service told Itar-Tass.
Valery Semerikov, the deputy secretary general of the CSTO, says that
special attention will be paid to developing consistent single methods of
holding search and rescue operations and using rescue equipment.
Besides, the meeting will consider questions linked to the training of
personnel for civil defense units and firefighting and rescue teams and
the provision of special equipment for agencies dealing with matters of
civil defense and prevention and liquidation of emergencies.
Other topics for discussion will include the use of the educational
potential and practice grounds for training special purpose units of the
CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force.
The Collective Rapid Reaction Force was set up by decision of the
heads of state of countries members of the Collective Security Treaty
Organization in October 2007 to coordinate interaction by the CSTO
ministers and agencies in preventing and liquidating the consequences of
emergency situations.
The CSTO consists of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia,
Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
