WTO’s impacts on industry discussed

(KPL) The Ministry of Industry and Commerce held a meeting to disseminate the result of a research on impacts on Laos’s industry sector when the country gains an access to the World Trade Organisation.
The research, which focuses mainly on cement, steel and beer industries of the country, says that the improvement of legal documents to conform to the requirements of the World Trade Organisation is necessary as well as the provision of information on the promotion and protection of domestic industry under the WTO frameworks in order to prepare them for the competition on international markets.
The meeting took place in Vientiane Capital on November 23 under the chairmanship of Mr. Phanh Vilaysom, Deputy Head of the Foreign Commerce Policy Department, Ministry of Industry and Commerce. More than 40 relevant officials from government agencies, international organisations and business people attended the meeting
