Govt approves Chinese tree plantation investment in Savannakhet
(KPL) The government of the Lao PDR has allowed a Chinese company Douangtaven Paper Production to develop an industrial tree plantation project in Phine and Sepon districts, Savannakhet province.
According to the agreement on such an investment signed here on Monday by Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, Mr. Thongmy Phomvisay, and Director of Douangtaven Paper Production, Mr. Bai Mao Lin, the Chinese company will plant industrial trees on an area of 100,000 ha. This includes 30,000 ha planted by the company alone and another 70,000 ha planted under the cooperation between the company and local people.
According to Mr. Bai, the company plans to complete a paper mill in this central province in 2010.
