Haj reaches climax; Mufti describes suicide attacks as curse

HAJ
Dubai, Nov 27 (PTI) The Haj pilgrimage on Friday reached
its climax as millions of Muslims, including over 1.6 lakh
from India, dressed in white robes pelted pebbles on pillars
symbolising the devil at Mina in Saudi Arabia on the final day
of the Haj as the holy day was marked with mass animal
sacrifices.

"In the Holy Site of Mina, pilgrims performed Hajj ritual
of stoning in a streamlined system according to the prepared
grouping plan," an official statement said.
Muslims also performed Eid Al-Adha prayers at the Grand
Mosque in Makkah and Prophet's Mosque in Madinah in Saudi
Arabia on the third and final day of the Haj, the Saudi Press
Agency reported.
Around 1,66,000 Indian Muslims are in Makkah out of an
estimated international pilgrim total of two million.
Millions of pilgrims in Mina filed by the three jamarat
pillars tossed stones to mark Abraham's three rejections of
the devil's attempts to persuade him to ignore God's
instructions to sacrifice his son Ismail.
Meanwhile, Saudi Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz exhorted
Muslims to adhere to the true principles of Islam. The Mufti
condemned terrorism and suicide operations in unequivocal
terms.
"Suicide operations have become a curse of Muslim lands.
Innocent men, women and children are killed and their
installations wrecked. The most serious problem the Muslim
community is facing lately is from deviant ideology," the
Mufti was quoted as saying by Arab News. (MORE) PTI SAZ
