London, Nov 29 (ANTARA) - Indonesia has again been re-elected C-category council member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the 2009-2011 period after gaining 132 of the 153 valid votes in the election.
The election was held at the IMO 26th assembly in London, third secretary at the Indonesian embassy Billy Wibisono told Antara here on Sunday, adding that Indonesia became an IMO council member in 1973.
Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister, Freddy Numberi during the general debate at the IMO 26th assembly session said that Indonesia as a maritime country played a role as one of IMO council members especially placing safety as a priority in the Indonesian cruise activities.
By getting 132 votes, Indonesia now ranks third while it ranked fourth when selected in 2007 with 114 votes, Wibisono said.
And now Indonesia could continue playing a vital role as a member of the IMO Council, he added.***
