JAKARTA'S MONAS AREA CLOSED TO GAS EMITING CARS
Jakarta, Nov 30 (ANTARA) - Cars that have not passed an emission test as of Monday (Nov 30) are not allowed to enter and park in Jakarta's Monas (National Monument) area under a regulation issued by the city administration.
"The policy has been adopted in an effort to maintain the capital city's air quality," Peni Susanti, head of Jakarta's Environment Managment Affairs (BPLHD), said here on Monday.
She said that cars which did not carry the strickers issued to cars that have passed emission tests would not be allowed to enter the area.
Peni said in order to create clean and healthy air in Jakarta, the regional government has prepared 25 points of stickers zones. The use of stickers have been imposed on five of points, namely at the parking lots of Dharmais Hospital, Sahid Hotel, PT Marina Berto, BPLHD office and PT Dankos.
The obligation to use stickers will also be imposed on the remaining 20 points in stages in the following months.
So far, the Jakarta regional government still imposes the requirement of gas emission tests on four-wheel vehicles but in 2010 the requirement will also be imposed on two-wheel vehicles or motorcycles.
