125 years since birth of Kenen Azerbayev
Almaty, December 01, 2009, Khabar - The national library, which has books by Kenen Azerbayev amongst its collection, has witnessed a meeting of poets, which was devoted to the 125th anniversary of the birth of the poet. Kenen Azerbayev lived 95 years, including 80 years of creative work. He wrote over 150 poems as well as setting them to music. The master of improvisation always tried to help people and glorified the beauty of the Kazakh steppe and the friendship of nations. During World War II, people heard him saying: “My tongue, be like a bullet to the enemies, sing, sing!” Kenen was given the duty of informing Zhambyl about the death of his son Algadai. The "killed in battle" telegram said that the soldier had been killed during the liberation of Ukraine. The poet took a dombra and sang a song about the feat of the warrior named Algadai. The youngest son of the poet Bakhytzhan devoted a book to the 125th anniversary since the birth of his father. The book presents the memoirs of a close person. For example, Kenen had his own style of upbringing, he sang the morals to his 9 children at the dining table.
Bakhytzhan Kenenuly, son of Kenen Azerbayev:
- There are a lot of interesting things which are unknown to people. For example, in 1946 my father adopted a girl called Khamsiyat, who was only 10 years old and was asking for handouts. Father brought her home and called her Aisha Kenenkyzy. When she graduated from school, she worked in a collective farm, got married and gave birth to 5 children.
A son of the famous writer Ilyas Zhansugurov, Sayat said that Kenen Azerbayev was a kind and just person. During the repressions people were afraid of saying the names of people aloud but Kenen Azerbayev was not afraid of telling the truth.
Sayat Zhansugurov, son of Ilyas Zhansugurov:
- I was a student when I was told that I am the son of Ilyas Zhansugurov. He told me never to think badly of your father, since he was never a public enemy but, on the contrary, he helped people. I still remember these words. He was a great person. He had been living in the mountains among simple people and wrote a lot of interesting poems. I still have great joy when I remember him.
