CALL FOR FRAMEWORK TO STRENGTHEN COOPERATION BETWEEN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- Representatives from 17 countries including
Malaysia are here today for the three-day Regional Consultation on Quality
Management: Linking Trade Promotion Organisations and National Standards Bodies
for Export Success.

The consultative workshop that ends Thursday, serves as a platform for
senior officials and representatives from national standard bodies and trade
promotion organisations from developing countries to share experiences, discuss
best practice cases and consider common challenges with regard to strengthening
their interlinkages.

"It is hoped that at the end of this consultation session, a framework can
be established and adopted in developing and strengthening cooperation between
developing nations towards enhancing their competitiveness in the global
market," said Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) chief
executive officer Noharuddin Nordin in his welcoming remarks.

Matrade and the Department of Standards Malaysia are joint hosts of the
consultation, organised by the International Trade Centre and International
Organisation for Standardisation.
