MALAYSIAN POLICE FORCE NEEDS MORE CHOPPERS IN THE FUTURE

LANGKAWI (Malaysia), Dec 1 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysian Police needs to
have more helicopters in the future for fighting crime in the country, said
Inspector-General of Police, Musa Hassan.

He said as of now the force had 10 helicopters.

"We need more helicopters as they provide much help in combating crime. If I
can, I would like very state to have one helicopter each," he told reporters
after a visit to the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition
(LIMA 2009) here Tuesday.

LIMA 2009 begins Tuesday till Dec 5 and is being attended by more than 325
companies from 25 countries to showcase various air, maritime and defence
equipment.

Asked if the police force wanted to have unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs),
Musa said there was no proposal for that for now as the cost was too high.

Musa said the Royal Malaysian Police also needed a communication system to
enhance the force's duties.

Meanwhile, northern state of Kedah Mentri Besar, Azizan Abdul Razak, when
met while at the exhibition said the state government was proud to have the
exhibition in the rice-bowl state.

He said the government would always cooperate with the federal government to
host the exhibition that has now been held close to two decades.

Beginning in 1991, LIMA was now a premier destinaton for producers of
maritime and aerospace equipment that targeted the Asia-Pacific market for the
defence, enforcement and civil sectors.
