MALAYSIAN ARMADA DISPLAY CAPABILITIES

LANGKAWI (Malaysia), Dec 2 (Bernama) -- A flotilla of high-powered vessels belonging to the Malaysian enforcement agencies demonstrated their capabilities in rescue, fire-fighting and anti-smuggling operations in the waters off Awana Porto Malai here Tuesday.

They are from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), the Customs,
the Marine Action Force (PGM) and the Royal Malaysian Navy's Special Forces
(Paskal).

Six helicopters, including a Dauphin and an CL145 amphibian, were also
involved in the demonstration.

The MMEA amphibian aircraft, which was piloted by a Capt Zalina Sungib, was
given a thunderous applause by the audience.

Paskal members were dropped from Super Lynx and Fennec aircraft from the 502
Squadron to launch an under water assault by using HKMP5A5, Glock 17L pistols
and smoke grenades.

Ninety-nine high-powered vessels from 24 countries including Malaysia
mothballed in the waters off Awana Porto Malai in conjunction with the Langkawi
International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2009 (Lima'09).
