END PALESTINIAN CONFLICT QUICKLY, SAYS INDIA

By P.VIJIAN

NEW DELHI, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- India wants the global community to
reinvigorate West Asia's peace process so as to end the sufferings of the
Palestinian people quickly but cautioned that any use of force will only defeat
the purpose.

"The West Asian conflict is essentially political in nature and cannot be
resolved by force," said Shashi Tharoor, India's Minister of State for
External Affairs.

Despite decades of attempts by international agencies to seek an amicable
solution to the Palestinian crisis, it had remained a burning issue without a
peaceful solution insight.

Political observers conced e that the unresolved Palestinian conflict by
superpowers had only created more security instability for the world, including
the ongoing global terrorism.

"It is in the interest of the entire international community that a just and
comprehensive solution can be achieved resulting in a sovereign, independent,
viable and a united state of Palestine," added Tharoor.

Speaking at the "International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian
People" in Delhi today, Tharoor said India was fully committed to the
Palestinian cause since 1936 -- when India's Congress Party sent its greetings
to Palestinian leaders.

"As a responsible member of the international community and a country with
long established ties with West Asia, India desires to see a resolution in the
region through a dialogue," the minister added.
