PRESIDENT OPENS PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT CONFERENCE IN PALANGKARAYA

Palangkaraya, Dec 3 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono opened an All Indonesia Provincial Governments Association (APPSI) national working congress in Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, on Thursday morning.

On the occasion the president was accompanied by Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi, APPSI chairman Fauzi Bowo, and Central Kalimantan Governor Agustin Teras Narang.

Held in Jayang Tingang hall at the Central Kalimantan governor`s office, the APPSI national congress was participated in by all governors from throughout the country.

President Yudhoyono and his entourage arrived here on Wednesday afternoon for a two-day working visit in Central Kalimantan to open the APPSI national working meeting.

On Wednesday evening the head of state held a gathering here with the governors who would attend the All Indonesia Provincial Governments Association national working meeting the next day.

The gathering which started at 7:30 p.m. local time was held in Jayang Tingang Hall at the Central Kalimantan governor`s office in Palangkaraya.

At the gathering on Wednesday evening, President Yudhoyono reiterated that the investigation into the Bank Century case should be carried out immediately and transparently in order to avoid suspicions.

"I have a great concern with incorrect information about the case. We all have our moral conscience and that the Bank Century case should be disclosed to avoid suspicion among us because we still have a lot of homework to do," the president said.

The head of state also asked that the flow of funds from Bank Century be traced thoroughly and transparently in order to avoid character assassination.

When the president opens the APPSI national conference on Thursday morning, First Lady Ani Yudhoyono was having a gathering with the wives of the governors and district heads and mayors of Central Kalimantan before visiting a handicraft center in Palangkaraya.

President Yudhoyono is scheduled to return to Jakarta from Palangkaraya at 12:20 pm local time on Thursday and scheduled to arrive at Halim Perdanakusuma airport in Jakarta at 2 p.m.

President Yudhoyono`s entourage included Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto, Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan, State Minister for National Development Planning Board Armida Alisjahbana, State Minister for State Enterprises Abubakar Mustafa, Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Andi Mallarangeng, Public Works Deputy Minister Hermanto Dardak, Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi, Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Radjasa, Agriculture Minister Suswono, and Maritime and Fisheries Affairs Minister Fadel Muhammad.
