AROUND 2,000 POLICEMEN TO ENSURE SECURITY AT ASIAN PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY

Bandung, Dec 2 (ANTARA) - West Java Police will mobilize around 2,000 personnel to ensure security of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly on December 7-10 at Merdeka building here.

Local police spokesman Senior Commissioner Dede Achmad said here on Wednesday that the 2,000 police personnel would be deployed at trouble-prone areas in Bandung city to ensure security during the the assembly.

"Security will be maintained to anticipate bomb terror attacks, sabotage in the form of theft and vandalism, arson, and violent demonstration by certain groups of people wishing to foil the Asian Parliamentary Assembly," Dede said.

He said the policemen to be deployed to maintain security include 924 personnel from Bandung City, 100 from West Bandung, 100 from Central Bandung, and 100 from East Bandung.

"There will be 2,000 personnel all together," Dede said, adding that the assembly would be attended by 223 participants from 39 countries from Asia and 21 observers.

He said the participants would arrive in Bandung on December 6, 2009, and stay at Savoy Homan hotel and Preanger hotel.

Before the participants arrive, Dede said the police will comb the assembly hall and the hotels to make sure security is really maintained.

"To anticipate bomb terror attacks before the arrival of the guests, the police bomb squads will comb the assembly hall and the hotels where the delegates will be staying," Dede said.
