MP SUGGESTS MOSTI WORKS WITH IRAN ON NUCLEAR DEVELOPMENT
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- A parliament member Wednesday urged the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) to work with Iran for the development of nuclear power in the country.
MP Ibrahim Ali, during the debate on the Supply Bill 2010, said the ministry
should not hesitate to undertake a collaboration that will bring benefits to the
country.
He also said Iran was advanced in the field.
During the debate at Parliament today, he also raised questions on the
Malaysian Meteorological Department, wanting to know how many experts there were
in the department.
"This is important as I always follow the weather forecast. There are times
when it is accurate, and at times not so accurate and other times completely
inaccurate," he said.
Meanwhile, MP Hamim Samuri suggested that Parliament members be taken on
overseas visits to see the workings of power generators using nuclear energy.
It would be difficult to convince the people of the power generated by
nuclear energy if the MPs themselves are not convinced of the use of nuclear
energy, he said.
MP Hee Loy Sian, meanwhile, suggested that the ministry used some other
energy source in place of nuclear energy.
"The government can use biogas, solar and others to generate electricity
power. The people will be also worried about the use of nuclear energy.
Therefore, I suggest, if possible the ministry gets feedback from the people
beforehand on whether they agree or not to the use of nuclear energy," he
said.
