MMEA PLANS TO BUILD TWO MARITIME BASES UNDER 10MP

LANGKAWI (Malaysia), Dec 3 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement
Agency (MMEA) plans to build maritime bases in Kota Kinabalu, capital of East
Malaysia state of Sabah, and Klang in the state of Selangor under the
10th Malaysia Plan (10MP).

Its director-general, Admiral Mohd Amdan Kurish said the bases would
keep MMEA vessels and helicopters to facilitate search and rescue operations in
the areas.

"We have identified suitable locations," he told reporters after witnessing
a search and rescue demonstration conducted by the MMEA in conjunction with the
Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (Lima '09) in the
waters off Awana Porto Malai hotel here Wednesday.

Mohd Amdan said the MMEA would apply for the construction of the bases under
the 10MP.
