GOVT STUDYING PROSPECT OF UPGRADING SECURITY CHECK POSTS NATIONWIDE
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- The government is studying the prospect of
upgrading all check posts in the country as well as increase surveillance at
'hot spots' to enhance security level in the country.
"The government is always concerned and views safety and security of the
nation very seriously, especially at the country's borders, and will beef up
security if required," deputy Home Minister Jelaing Mersat told the Lower House
of Parliament Thursday.
Jelaing said the government does not have any plans to revive the Border
Scout patrol in East Malaysia satate of Sarawak.
He added that the squad that was formed in 1962 to safeguard the Sarawak
border during the confrontation and Communist uprising, had since been drafted
into the auxiliary police squad in 1985, he said.
