LOCAL MEDICAL CENTRE, S`PORE CANCER CENTRE INK MOU
SUBANG JAYA (Malaysia), Dec 5 (Bernama) -- Prominent private hospital Sime
Darby Medical Centre Subang Jaya (SDMCSJ) today inked a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) with
the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) on patient referral partnership to
treat cancer.
With the MoU, both centres would be able to make referrals to consenting
patients on a need basis, from time to time, for second medical consultations
and follow-up treatment.
At the signing ceremony here, Sime Darby Healthcare Group chief executive
officer Elaine Cheong said the MoU would pave the way for a smooth and hassle-
free process for patients who travelled to both countries for management and
treatment.
"Our cancer centre and NCCS will also cooperate to provide financial
counselling to patients regarding the referrals," she added.
The signing of the MoU was witnessed by chairman of SDMCSJ board of
directors
Tengku Ahmad Shah Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah.
SDMCSJ, formerly known as Subang Jaya Medical Centre, began its Cancer
and Radiosurgery Centre in 2001, with the aim of becoming a regional centre of
excellence for cancer care, with a holistic approach to patient care.
Cheong said the cancer centre had become one of the top facilities in
providing care to its patients, with state-of-the-art equipments which include a
low-dose, 64-slic PET/CT scanner and the 3D High Dose Rate Brachytherapy System.
"Through this continous acquisition of technologies, and through
high-quality patient centric care combined with good patient outcome, our Cancer
and
Radiosurgery Centre has fast become a growing cancer referral facility," she
disclosed.
Meanwhile, SDMCSJ also signed another MoU with Hospis Malaysia to establish
a framework for referral of patients for medical evaluation and for pallative
care, which involves treatment and care of patients diagnosed with
life-threatening conditions.
This weekend, SDMCSJ held an open day to provide better understanding of
cancer, its prevention, detection and treatment to the public, including talks
on cancer and related topics by 10 medical specialists and a dietician.
