MALAYSIA'S ECONOMY TO GROW AT 4-5 PCT IN 2010

TOKYO, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian economy is expected to grow between
4-5 per cent in 2010, barring any unforeseen global economic or financial
crisis.

Deputy Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin said Central Bank of Malaysia
had reported that the economy continued to perform better into the
third and fourth quarters of this year.

"The government's various measures have helped stabilise the economy,
together with the improved global economic conditions," Muhyiddin said at the
meeting between him and captains of industries and businesses in Japan here,
Monday.

Muhyiddin is in Japan leading a four-day specific trade and investment
mission from today. Besides Tokyo, he will also go to Osaka.

Also present at the meeting were Malaysian Industrial Development Authority
(MIDA) director-general Jalilah Baba and Malaysian Ambassador to Japan,
Shaharuddin Mohd Som.

To mitigate the impact of the current global crisis, the government has put
together two stimulus packages, amounting to RM67 billion (USD$ 18.6 billion) or
about nine percent of gross domestic product (GDP) to be spent over 2 years.
