Lao medical team arrive home

Vientine, June 4 (KPL) - Some 23 Lao medical officials returned home on 2 June, after completing a medical treatment mission from Myanmar to help Cyclone Nargis victims in Myanmar earlier last month.

Lao Medical Team had operated their mission in Kyauk Tan district, which divided into three groups to give medical treatment for Myanmar victims.

The first group was responsible for cyclone victims in 40 temporary tents.

The second group operated in seven villages in rural and remote areas to help victims and treat patients. The last group was in the district hospital to provide health checking.

Over the past two-week treatment, the Lao medical team was able to treat over 4,575 people and operate on five cases.

Lao medical staff also enhanced the solidarity by sharing lessons, culture with Myanmar medical staff and people.

The team has donated the medical supply, medical equipment, two generators and relief aid package to Kyauk Tan district worth US$69,992.

The Lao medical team were welcomed by Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Eaksavang Vongvichit, Myanmar Ambassador to Laos, Mr M.U Nyunth Laing and other medical officials from Public Health Ministry, Mahosot, Friendship and Setthathirath hospitals. - end.
