Russia to strengthen partnership with India--Medvedev.
MOSCOW, December 7 (Itar-Tass) - Russia is going to strengthen
strategic partnership with India, President Dmitry Medvedev said at a
press conference in the Kremlin on Monday after the end of the talks with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
"We intend to strengthen our
strategic partnership in every way," he stressed. According to President
Medvedev, the talks were held in an atmosphere of mutual trust and
friendship, which is traditional for the relations between the two
countries.
According to the information of the Russian President, he and the
Indian Prime Minister actively exchanged view on concrete spheres of
Russian-Indian cooperation. "The present level of mutual trust and
partnership is bringing good results," he said. Despite the world crisis,
trade turnover between the two countries continues to grow. During nine
months of the current year it grew by 7.5 per cent and exceeded five
billion dollars. "Next year we are going to bring it to ten billion
dollars," said Medvedev, adding that, considering the size of our domestic
markets, this figure is not the limit. "The figures could be far greater,"
he said. He pointed to positive dynamics in the development of
Russian-Indian cooperation in space exploration, telecommunications,
pharmaceutics and defence. He specially mentioned the development of
cooperation in nuclear power engineering, stressing that "we are going to
further advance in this promising sphere."
President Medvedev said he had discussed with the Indian Prime
Minister some topical international problems, on which the attitude of the
two countries is similar. According to Medvedev, Moscow and New Delhi
favour the adoption of an international convention for fighting terrorism
as soon as possible and the creation of a new system of financial security
in the world.
