PREMIER REPORTS RESULTS OF LOAN CONTRACT
Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ A speech has been given by the Premier S.Batbold at a meeting dedicated to considering a fruitfulness of the loan agreement established August 25 of 2003 between Mongolia's government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
"…Six years have passed since inking the contract on soft-loan to realize the 'Development of health sector-2' project. Within the contract, various currencies amounting to 10.1 million Special Drawing Rights (SDR) were granted from the ADB in 2004-2009, and MNT 3.4 billion were allotted from the government," he said.
He added that buildings for 35 hospitals, apartments for medical doctors in 73 soums and 27 artesian wells were erected thanks to the project. Hospitals in 108 soums of five provinces received up-to-date equipment, some 7,000 doctors were trained home and abroad on human resources, treatment and diagnosis.
"One of the issues that are constantly at the center of the government's atteintion is providing rural doctors with comfortable work conditions and raising labor rate for the employees. Adjusting to Mongolian territories' features, the ADB involved medical doctors and experts in various trainings,” Batbold stressed, and said he is satisfied with support of the ADB for Mongolia in tackling its many urgent policy matters such as granting scholarships to medical sciences' students.
Pursuant to the loan agreement, some 400 thousand people, including more than 120 thousand women of Dornod, Khentii, Ovorkhangai, Bayankhongor and Zavkhan provinces, were involved in the development of health sector-2 project. During its implementation, a rate of maternity mortality was decreased by 49 points, and child mortality under five age went down by 2 points in the above five provinces.
Presently, the "Development of health sector-3" project has been realized. In addition to it, a preparation has been completed for the fourth project.
S.Batbold was followed by a Minister of Health S.Lambaa who gave a report on results of the loan.
