KPK TO COLLABORATE WITH UN AGENCY
Jakarta, June 4 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is to collaborate with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), an agency under the UN's Social and Economic Council handling corruption cases.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the cooperation was signed by the KPK vice chairman for prevention , M Jasin, and the UNODC chief representative for the Asia Pacific region, Akira Fujino, at the KPK building here Wednesday.
Under their cooperation agreement, the two bodies would among other things exchange information and documents, cooperate in advocacy and familiarization activities, formulation of preventive strategies and increasing their capacity to recover assets.
UNODC is an agency entrusted with the mission of promoting implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).
Jasin said after the MoU's signing, a constraint in the implementation of the cooperation was the fact that a number of countries had yet to ratify the convention.
Of the 150 countries that attended a conference on the convention in Bali, only 100 had so far ratified it. But Jasin also said more countries were expected to adopt the convention in the near future."Then, our cooperation will be more widely based," he said.
