CRIME ALONG THE BORDER UNDER CONTROL, M'SIA-THAI COOPERATION ENHANCED

JELI(Malaysia), Dec 9 (Bernama) -- Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan
said although crime along the Malaysia-Thailand border is under control, the
Royal Malaysia Police will step up cooperation with the Thai police especially
in the aspect of enforcement.

He said that to demonstrate their commitment in maintaining security along
the border, the Malaysian police would increase the number of personnel at the
border posts and seek the cooperation of other relevant agencies including the
Thai police.

"We will discuss with other agencies to ensure that security in these
(border) areas is under control," he said.

He said this to reporters after attending the renaming ceremony of the
second bridge linking Bukit Bunga, here to Ban Buketa in southern Thailand, to
the 'Bridge of Friendship' by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his
Thai counterpart, Abhisit Vejjajiva, here Wednesday.

Crime along the border usually involved the smuggling of various items such
as rice and drugs.

Musa also said that public cooperation in providing information on criminal
activities along the border was also most crucial.
