BERNAMA TV PRODUCING MORE PROGRAMMES AND JOURNALISTS OF CALIBRE
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- Bernama TV's consumerism programme started two years ago to educate the public on their rights as consumers has won both fans and accolades.
Its 1Konsumer talk show producer Salina Sukaimi said many consumers were
still unaware of their rights and the TV station hoped that the programme could
educate more people on consumer rights and claiming such rights.
Bernama TV's effort in creating such awareness paid off when it won the
Consumerism TV Programme Award and Consumerism TV Journalist Award from the
Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry at a presentation last
night.
This was the second time that Bernama TV had won the Consumerism TV
Programme Award after last year.
1Konsumer reporter Ratinawati Rasidi who won the Consumerism TV Journalist
Award said the achievement would serve as a catalyst for her to perform better
as she was still new in the broadcasting field.
"What I tried to highlight to the public was the issue of credit card use
which is an issue of public concern," she said.
Ratinawati who received RM4,000 (US$1,176.64), a trophy and a certificate
hoped her win would inspire other journalists to help protect the rights and
interests of consumers through their writings.
Bernama's Radio24 won the Consumerism Radio Programme Award for the second
year in a row.
Programme head Azlan Idris said the consumer programme, on air every
Wednesday at 1.15pm, was recognised for its relevance in supporting the
ministry's efforts in safeguarding consumers' interests.
"We always try to inject something new into our programme in educating
consumers on their rights although some of the issues discussed may be
sensitive," he said.
Bernama feature writer Melati Mat Arif received a consolation prize for her
article on the various efforts to protect the rights of consumers during the
economic downturn.
