KALININGRAD, June 6 (Itar-Tass) - A fire that occurred aboard acommercial ship at a repair dockyard of the Russian Navy located in the town of Baltiysk in Russia's Baltic exclave region of Kaliningrad, has claimed one human life, sources at the press service of the regional branch of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry told Itar-Tass Thursday.
The fire has been put out. Three people were injured and nine aremissing. The fire began after an explosion on board the ship. According to unofficial data, the blast and the fire came as a result of welding works in one of the ship's compartments.
Kaliningrad region Governor Georgy Boos visited the site. The search for the missing continues.
The container carrier Yenisei belonging to the St Petersburg-basedEnex company has the water displacement of 1,659 tons and the size of 82 meters by 11.6 meters.
A total of eight teams of firefighters and rescuers reporting to the Emergency Situations Ministry and six teams of firefighters reporting to the Baltic Fleet were engaged in the effort to extinguish the blaze, which covered an area of about 500 square meters.
