Five rescued Ukrainian sailors to fly from Israel to homeland

.

TEL-AVIV, December 14 (Itar-Tass) -- Five Ukrainian sailors from the
sunken freighter Salla-2 will fly to the homeland soon. They have already
been discharged from the Haifa hospital and are waiting for a home flight,
the Israeli television reported on Sunday.
The rescuers said one more sailor is staying in Beirut. The search for
other crewmen is underway. The freighter was carrying 13 Ukrainian
sailors. Naval helicopters of Cyprus and Israel, as well as the NATO
forces involved in the UN peacekeeping operation in southern Lebanon are
participating in the search operation. The Israeli radio said one more
sailor was found dead and brought to Haifa for identification.
The freighter Salla-2 flying the colors of Togo sank overnight to
Saturday en route from Greece to Israel. The ship wrecked outside the
Israeli territorial waters, 80 kilometers away from the destination port.
During the storm the vessel "developed a critical list and sank for half
an hour," the sailors said.
It is unclear yet who is the owner of the freighter, as its owners had
changed often for the past few years. According to the Israeli television,
the recent Salla-2 owner was an Israeli port Ashdod's resident, who
registered the freighter in Cyprus. The Israeli maritime police was
reported to prepare an operation to arrest the vessel, which was suspected
of diesel fuel smuggling.
