MALAYSIAN PM ATTENDS UN CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE IN COPENHAGEN

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak will attend the high-level segment of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark from Dec 16 to 18.

Najib will be accompanied by his wife Rosmah Mansor, Natural
Resources and Environment Minister Douglas Uggah Embas, as well as
senior officials from the ministry, Foreign Affairs Ministry, Prime Minister's
Office and other agencies.

According to a statement from Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) Sunday, Najib
is scheduled to deliver a statement on Malaysia's position on climate change on
Dec 17.

"The presence of the prime Minister clearly demonstrates the importance
that
Malaysian attaches to the issue of climate change," the statement said.

Najib will also attend the opening session for the heads of state or
goverment which will be officiated by the Denmark Prime Minister and a dinner
hosted by the Queen of Denmark and Prince Consort.

The conference will include the 15th Conference of Parties (COP 15) to the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Fifth
Conference of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP 5).

The objective is to secure a broad consensus for urgent action to be taken
at all levels to address the issue of climate change in order to avoid
catastrophic consequences that can affect humankind.
