MOSLEMS IN DEPOK REJECT FPI'S DISBANDMENT
Depok, Jun 7 (ANTARA) - Many moslems in Depok City, West Java, fully supported the struggle of the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) as a pillar capable of giving a contribution to minimizing moral decadence and therefore rejected calls for the disbandment of the FPI. A statement on their stance conveyed by Depok Moslem Alliance Coordinator H Hassanuddin Sandy, the Depok chapter's Indonesian Council of Ulemas General Chairman Dr KH Dimyanti Badruzaman, Astidz Cooridinator in Depok KH Abu Bakar Madris, representing moslems in Depok, at the Al Anru Bittaqwa mosque here on Friday afternoon. Earlier, the statement of the Moslems' stance in Depok was announced after conducting Istighosah Qubro prayers and delivering an address at the mosque. In the meantime, the Islamic law consultative forum of Depok City strongly urged the government to ban Ahmadiya and release FPI Chairman Habib Rizieq Shihab. Asatidz Coordinator KH Abu Bakar Madris said the main cause of the national monument square incident on June 1 was inseparable from the government's procrastinated action in issuing a long-awaited ban on Ahmadiyah. "This is the core of the problem why FPI resorted to such violent action," he said. Therefore, he added, the government should immediately issue a joint ministrial decree on banning Ahmadiyah, so that a conducive situation could be maintained.
