RF FM, French envoy to examine DPRK nucl` program sit`.
MOSCOW, December 15 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs
Sergei Lavrov and Jacques Langue, French special presidential envoy, meet
here on Tuesday to examine the situation concerning the nuclear programme
of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and prospects for a
resumption of the six-country process on the denuclearization of the
Korean Peninsula.
US special representative Stephen Bosworth visited Moscow on Monday to
brief Sergei Lavrov and Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Borodavkin on the
results of his visit to Pyongyang on December 8-10.
Borodavkin said, "Our consultations on the nuclear problem on the
Korean Peninsula were of trust-based and frank nature. In particular, we
are gratified to note that the 2005 statement on denuclearization of the
Korean Peninsula found confirmation in Pyongyang". The diplomat said, "The
DPRK signified commitment to the negotiating process".
"The Russian side will carry on consultations with all participants in
the negotiating process with a view to bringing about its resumption," the
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister summed up.
Bosworth pointed out, for his part, that after the talks he had left
Pyongyang with a sense of satisfaction and understanding that they had
been held in an open and friendly atmosphere.
In response to a question as to whether the United States is ready to
conclude a peace treaty with the DPRK, Bosworth emphasized that
Washington, just as the other participants in the six-party process
expresses commitment to the striving to sign a peace treaty regarding the
situation on the Korean Peninsula. However, denuclearization of the Korean
Peninsula is one of major points of such a treaty that the North Korean
side must implement, he said. The US does not set a time limit for a
resumption of the six-country talks but, as all the other partners for the
process, it seeks to bring about its resumption as soon as possible and is
working to that end, Bosworth pointed out.
Wi Sung-lac, South Korea's special representative at the six-country
talks, is to arrive in Moscow on Thursday, December 17, to discuss further
actions with regard to Pyongyang's nuclear programme.
